Part of what everyone was watching for in the plea deal was to see if Michael Vick would admit to gambling on the dog fights, which would bring a more certain end to his NFL career as opposed to the more "harmless" charges of executing dogs and running a dog fighting operation.
In an AP story, Michael Vick's dad said that Vick's longtime friends were not the main instigators in the dogfighting operation and had this to say about his son's involvement:
"I wish people would stop sugarcoating it. This is Mike's thing. And he knows it ... likes it, and he has the capital to have a set up like that."
Supposedly Vick's father said he asked his son to give up dogfighting and told him that he should at least put the property they were using for the operation in someone else's names to avoid being implicated if they got caught.
I don't know how you can run a gambling operation and not participate.
