Man, I feel like a woman

January 18, 2004 @ 5:55am

I saw a commercial tonight for the new Chevy Colorado Crew Cab. A half dozen guys are plowing through some rugged terrain in their manly Crew Cab and one guy in the back is signing Shania Twain's "Man I Feel Like A Woman" - loudly. The rest of the guys cringe as he belts out lines like "the best thing about being a woman is the prerogative to have a little fun" - but no one is changing the radio station.

It reminds me how happy I am that I work from a basement home office and no one is around to hear me and Liz Phair singing "give me your hot, white come" over and over.

I'm gonna pull you back down between the sheets.
Everything is fresher when the day is sweet.
In the morning light, when you're already on the phone...
Face it one of these days,
Without you I'm just another Dorian Gray.
It's the fountain of youth. It's the meaning of life.
So hot, so sweet, so whet my appetite.

The funny thing is, I've seen reviews that call that song the album's lyrical peak.

HWC, meanwhile, is that rare thing: a genuinely subversive pop song. It's difficult not to sing along with the chorus, which could prove embarrassing in the bus queue...

I guess that all depends on where you're catching the bus.

If a song is incredibly infectious, wouldn't you sing it no matter what it made you sound like?
