Weblogs in the popular press

May 17, 2004 @ 4:35am

I found a good entry on overstated where Cameron Marlow "queried the LexisNexis database for references to 'weblog,' 'web log,' and 'blog' resulting in 4051 magazine and newspaper articles from 1998 to the present." Then he graphed the results.

The first item that appeared in his LexisNexis search was someone using the word Weblog in February of 1998, but not as a reference to Weblogs as we know them today. Cameron also laments that most of the press attention has been given to Movable Type and Blogger and not to the less obvious, community-based blogging services like LiveJournal, DiaryLand and Xanga.
