Honey, it's Bill Clinton!

November 7, 2006 @ 6:10am

We got a phone call the other day on our house line while we were eating. Niki answered it and said it was Bill Clinton. "Well put him on speakerphone," I told her. I mean, why keep him all to yourself? The boys should share in this once-in-a-lifetime experience too, right?

It was, of course, a recorded message with Bill explaining why we should vote for someone in some New York race. I get those all the time from Westchester County Executive Andy Spano and those annoy me, but the Bill Clinton one was at least novel since he's an ex-president and he only called us one time.

According to the Washington Post though, these "robo calls" are stepping up this year and driving some people to tears. Even worse, critics are saying that some of these calls are false flag style -- ones where they seem to be from one party and if you hang up before reaching the end, you won't hear the true party behind the call identified at the end of the message.

"Democrats also cited Federal Communications Commission guidelines saying the originators of automated calls must identify themselves at the beginning of each call. Republican Party lawyers, however, said the requirement does not apply to political nonprofit organizations. They rebuffed a 'cease and desist' letter sent yesterday by the DCCC."

Pretty sneaky, sis.
