Pardon me while I rip it out

November 22, 2006 @ 3:58am

I ripped the Google Ad Sense out of my RSS feeds, which has most likely caused them to reload my last 20 posts for you.

Those ads were in there because my blog was the first one to get them in the Weblogs, Inc. Network -- which was the second public account ever to get to use Google Ad Sense for RSS, so it was kind of an honor -- and I never took them out when we sold the network to AOL. When AOL acquired Weblogs, many blogs didn't jump over including mine, Jason's, Mark's and hack a day. The personal blogs weren't really a fit for network advertisers, so they lived outside of AOL ad-free, but I missed removing those ads in my feeds.

Since the ads in my own feeds have probably made Weblogs/AOL about $0.14 in the last year, they won't notice them going away, but because of the way RSS feeds reload when content appears to change, you will see my posts reload in Bloglines or your other favorite feed reader as the ads are removed.

By the way, I've never seen Blazing Saddles, but I love Young Frankenstein.
