One interesting development in the Michael Vick dog fighting story was when the NBA's self-proclaimed top point guard Stephon Marbury defended Michael Vick. His original comments on the subject were:
"I think, you know, we don't say anything about people who shoot deer or shoot other animals. You know, from what I hear, dogfighting is a sport. It's just behind closed doors."
Now I understand the point he was trying to make, but no one's ready to listen to it. It's like someone trying to say that 9/11 was our own country's fault -- on 9/15.
Starbury later backed off and added to his statements, saying:
"However, we don't react the same when other animals are being killed for sport or the sake of human pleasure," and, "He should be punished. However, he should be given a second chance, as others have received for more serious crimes."
That kind of back-pedaling would never have happened if Jeff Van Gundy was still the Knicks' coach. He was all about defense. You never back off on defense.

From Wikipedia...
"Marbury has often gone by the nickname "Starbury", a name created during his youth."
I should have known, you NEVER make typos.

I once lived with a beautiful woman who worked at a veterinarianâs office. She had a habit of bringing home any mistreated dog or cat, sometimes refusing to let the owner have his or her pet back.
This resulted in a menagerie of dogs and cats in my house; yes in the house. There was more than 10 of each species; dogs, cats and birds.
The point here is that they all lived, slept and ate together. Fighting was not a natural behavior for any of them.
Dogs are trained to fight; it is not natural. People who do the training are cruel and ignorant.
I live in Hawaii and we have the same problem with roosters. Left on their own they become friends, but when caged separately they can be taught to fight, maim and kill each other.
This is all ridiculous, and the more severe the sentence Michael Vick gets the better. The attention he has called to this ugliness is wonderful.
Knock It Off!!!
As someone once said, "Can't we all just get along?" That should apply to animals as well.

For everyone who has read the news and read the comments on your weblog I have a propositon for you. If you are really disgusted about the inappropriate reaction from Stephon Marbury, as I am, then do what I am doing. Stop shopping at Steve and Barry's and buying Starbury clothing and sneakers, until they drop his line.
