This is an incredible use of Google Maps. SignOnSanDiego, the website of the San Diego Union-Tribune, has a giant map of the region showing burned structures, photos, videos, fire locations and evacuation areas. The fires and evacuation areas are done with polygon overlays and you can even throw traffic reports into the mix.
They list road closures below the map and they're tracking six major fires by name: Harris Fire; Witch Creek Fire; Rice Canyon Fire; Poomacha Fire; McCoy Fire and the Coronado Hills Fire in San Marcos. They even have an unofficial list of addresses of structures that were burned. Very depressing.
I was in San Diego in July for their gigantic comic book convention. It's a great town and I hope they get these fires under control soon.
