I'll be waiting at the station for the whole darned congregation

September 4, 2013 @ 11:48am

Meet me in St. Louis, Louis. Meet me at the Fair.
Don't tell me the lights are shining any place but there.

If I ever visit St. Louis, I guarantee you I will have that Judy Garland song running through my head the whole time.

I meet a lot of amazing, talented people online, but I don't always get to meet them in real life. That happens when you've got a virtual company. You can go a year without meeting someone you work with every single day, especially when you're running a global blog network. To this day I doubt I've met in person half of the bloggers who worked with me at Weblogs, Inc.

Since I don't have a lot of advance warning before a business trip, I've started keeping "meetup lists" in Evernote for each major city. Now I don't panic searching LinkedIn the night before a trip to see who I'm connected with in a city I rarely get to visit like Seattle, DC or Chicago. I just check my lists and I can have my meetings in the daytime and plan a great evening with friends — including friends I've never met.

So if you and I are connected on LinkedIn or Twitter and we've never met in person or it has been a while since we've seen each other, please remind me to add you to my meetup lists.

And for heaven's sakes, stop that screeching!
