Landlines suck

September 12, 2013 @ 10:36am

Nine out of ten calls on our phone lines are robocalls. Diane calls to see if we need our carpets professionally cleaned. There's an energy company that can save us money if we switch from ConEd if I just stay on the line and wait for a sales rep. Many of them hang up on me because I answer with "This is Brian" instead of the "Hello" they are programmed to listen for.

It's really not worth having a landline anymore. Plus I usually get two of the exact same call in a row since my office line is just a few digits off of our home line.

This advice from the FTC is discouraging:

What Should You Do If You Get a Robocall?
Hang up the phone. Don't press 1 to speak to a live operator and don't press any other number to get your number off the list. If you respond by pressing any number, it will probably just lead to more robocalls.

I'm so glad that cell phones continue to be immune to this junk.
